Yet again the rains were in control of the fifth match of the Champions Trophy causing the match to be abandoned, Australia and Bangladesh both earned a point each.
Australia’s first game of the tournament against New Zealand was also abandoned, maybe they will get better luck with the weather for their third game. Only if the skies kept closed for approximately 16 more minutes Australia would have won the game under the Duckworth/Lewis system.
On winning the toss Bangladesh would choose to bat first. However, their batting lineup failed miserably reaching a score of 182 all out in 44.3 overs. There were only three batsmen to get into double figures, with Tamim Iqbal leading the batting lineup. He was just five runs short of getting his second hundred for the tournament. Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa total destroyed Bangladesh’s batting lineup. Starc will end with figures of 4-29 getting three of his wickets in 43rd over of the match, whereas Zampa ended with figures of 2-13.
The rains denied Australia to chase with just playing 16 overs scoring 83-1, they need to at least reached 20 overs to get a clear winner. Hopefully, the rains don’t deny them again to get a victory for their 3rd game. Australia’s next match will be on June 10th and Bangladesh’s next match will be June 9th.
Group A action continues tomorrow with England facing New Zealand, June 6th 2017.
