Happy February, to all those reading this post and welcome to the first edition of “Sporty Saturdays” for this month. Hope you guys enjoy reading this post.

Detroit Pistions and LA Clippers

Over the past week there has been so much going on with the NBA, from free-agency, trades and injuries. On Monday 29th January 2018, Blake Griffin was traded to the Detroit Pistons from the LA Clippers. According to Griffin this trade came as a major surprise or him, as he learnt of the trade via Twitter. With this trade along with Griffin, players Brice Johnson and Willie Reed all were traded to the Detroit Pistons from the Clippers. In return the LA Clippers received, Tobais Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic and a 1st and 2nd round draft pick.

This trade came as a big shock to me as Blake Griffin was the face of the LA Clippers after Chris Paul went. Although the NBA is a business, I personally think that Griffin shouldn’t have learnt about this trade via Twiiter. After playing with a franchise for some years, out of respect he should of at least been aware of possible trading, definitely shouldn’t have been a suprise.

Greg Monroe

Free agent Greg Monroe is saying goodbye to the Phoenix Suns and hello to the Boston Celtics. The New Orleans Pelicans had offered Monroe $2.2M which he declined and decided to sign a one year $5M with the Boston Celtics, according to ESPN sources.

The injury bug

The NBA is suffering drastically with all these back to back injuries. While all injuries are bad the most horrific one recently for me was, Isaiah Canaan of the Phoenix Suns who broke his ankle on live broadcasting of an NBA game against the Dallas Mavericks, this was just very emotional to watch. After going for a play he landed awkward resulting in his ankle being broken. He was carried off the court via a stretcher after medical person shift his ankle back into place on the court. The Suns went on to defeat the Mavericks in the game ending on 102-88.

Another player affected by this injury bug was NBA All Star Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers who suffered a broken hand against the Detroit Pistons.  This injury will leave Kevin Love out for eight weeks.

Andre Roberson of the Oklahoma City Thunder is out for the remaining of the season as he ruptured his patellar tendon.

John Wall of the Washington Wizards who has been suffering with his left knee. Wall recently underwent an arthroscopic procedure which will help correct the problem, unfortunately he will be out for 6-8 weeks.

NBA All Star

There has been some changes to the NBA All Star game due to injuries. Miami Heat’s Goran Dragic will replace Kevin Love, Detroit Pistons Andre Drummond will replace John Wall and Oklahoma City Thunder’s Paul George will replace DeMarcus Cousins.

There’s a new ICC Cricket World Cup Under 19 champion as previous champion West Indies was elimated pretty early in the competition. The last two teams standing were Austrailia and India, in the final battle the Indians were declared champions. With this win the Indians became the most successful Under 19 cricketing team after claiming their fourth title, 2000, 2008, 2012 and now 2018. Austrailia batted first and were restricted to just 216 all out after playing for 47.2 overs, losing their last 6 wickets for just 33 runs. It didn’t take much for the Indians as they cruised to victory in just 38.5 overs. Opener and left handed batsmen Marjot Kalra scored 101 from 102 to help his team secure a comfortable win, winning by 8 wickets.

So special congratulations to the India team as they have performed from beginning to end of the tournament, without even losing a game.

Thank you for reading. 💖
